I'm outta my mind

I discovered recently that my employer has been using questionable ethics...not a good thing for an attorney, and his tactics are one of the reasons that my profession is no longer respected. So...I resolved my dilemma like this.

If anyone remembers, I took the Arizona Bar exam two years ago, so I rented a truck and leave for Tucson on Saturday Feb 13 (looks like I'll be on the road for Daytona - not that I would've watched anyway). I've got no employment, though I'm hoping to pick up some contract work until I can find a full time job. Guess I'll be living like this guy for a while:

I'm really working without a net for the first time in my life. Terrifying...but exciting, too.

You'll be living like Henry Fonda did? Never fear John. You'll be up and running in no time. There are a lot of avenues (note that I said avenues and not alleys) for you to travel down. I know you'll find what you're looking for and probably have some fun while you're at it. It's all perspective my friend, it's all perspective.

Take care John.

Pan, Nothing like a little anxiety and excitement in one's life. No need to wish you good luck, I don't think you will need it.

Thanks, Dave. My principles are more important than a few bucks...

You can tell your grandchilidren that you actually know a lawyer that said that...not that they'll believe you

Just checking in From Las Cruces, NM.

I left Philadelphia on Saturday 2/13 in 20 degree weather with over three feet of snow on the ground. We spent Saturday and Sunday skirting a storm system by going down Interstate 95 then over to Atlanta and Mobile. There was actually snow on the ground in southern Alabama. Spent Monday morning in a Ford dealer in Mobile addressing some car trouble: what would a road trip be without some adventure?

Yesterday we finally got out of the snow and spent the afternoon in San Antonio. Beautiful city. Saw the Alamo and had dinner on the Riverwalk.

Tomorrow we get into Tucson, where I rented an apartment. Then the real fun begins: I have to find work.

My company has an office in Las Cruces... I've heard its quite nice there!! I've never been but whenever we have to take a trip for some IT work the line is long to do the work.

I'm Jealous! What a fun trip, I love a good road trip.. Any pictures to share?

If I ever win the lottery... (Would need to play) I'd rent a huge diesel pusher and cruise N.America for years!! Ahh... if only.

Keep us in touch! Oh, and when you land and you need a good IT and Marketing person my wife and I will move too..

I love a road trip, too, and this was a good one; took 6 days. You really can't get a sense of the magnitude of this country from an airplane. When I was a kid my family's summer vacations would be spent driving across country towing a travel trailer. I hated it then, but in retrospect it was great to see the country: Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Tetons, Crater Lake, Grand Canyon, Bryce...you get the idea.

This is my last night in a motel, so my last internet access until Cox get to my apartment on Sunday. Once I get hooked up again I'll get some pix onto photobucket.

Sorry that it took so long for me to get back with an update. We are now settled into our new home in Tucson. I'm still looking for work, and the money is dwindling faster than I planned, but I'm confident that something will turn up before we are dead broke.

I have a bunch of pictures and I tried to set up a slide show, but I'm technologically inept, so I'll just give you a smattering.

Before I left Philadelphia we had two blizzards in four days:

Three days later, on the morning we left, it still looked like this:

Like I said before, we skirted another storm and there was snow as far south as Alabama - you can see it near the Kia plant six miles from the GA/AL border:

Here's my son outside our hotel in Mobile. In the background you can see the Ford dealer where we spent one morning:

After Mobile we got onto I-10 where we played leap frog with a bunch of haulers on their way from Daytona to Fontana:

After burning an entire morning in Mobile with car trouble we tried to make time across Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. This is the Father of waters near Baton Rouge:

Your humble narrator, taking a break and letting the co-pilot take the helm:

Lake Charles, Louisiana - reminds me of the song "Cripple Creek" by the Band:

We did make it to Texas that night:

Texas is a BIG state...about 850 miles and parts of three days. I hear they got a lot of nice girls down there:

We did take a side trip to see this American icon:

From San'tone we headed to this west Texas town:

I wanted to try to find Rosa's Cantina to have a dance with Felina, but we pushed on to Las Cruces.

After Las Cruces, it was short trip to our new home:

This is what the East side of Tucson looks like from Mount Lemmon:

Yep...I love the sun and I've already got a "farmer's tan".

My fiancee is flying out this week. She says that it's been nice weather in Philly...but I'm pretty sure that it hasn't been nearly this nice: 9 out of the last ten days have been 75 - 85, bright sunshine, blue skies. At night, it cools down into the forties...of course, it's not summer yet, either. Ask me how I like it after the 50th day of 100+ temps

Awesome Panhead. The sign that mentions Deming and Lordsburg, brings back memories. We lived in a small town called Hachita, which is half way between the two, and about 30 miles south.
Also, my brother has lived in Tucson for about 15 or so years. I might be able to send him your way if you need help with anything.
